TONDU C.C TO THE PRESENT DAY
Tondu Cricket Club was established in the years pre. 1860. In these times Tondu played their cricket in a small field, on the spot where the current Aberkenfig By Pass is situated. The club already had a full fixture list of Saturday cricket, with all of the games being friendlies.
In the 1870s the club moved to its current Bryn Road home, a field that the club rented from Hurley's Carpentry. The members turned the field into a cricket field and the groundsman at the time used a horse to pull a roller over the wicket, to make it playable.
It wasn't until 1954 that the members of Tondu Cricket Club raised £500, and bought the land from Hurley's.
In 1974, the current Club Secretary Tom McCormick, started running Junior Cricket teams at Bryn Road. Over subsequent years the junior section at Tondu went from strength to strength, with teams winning countless league titles and cups, and players playing representative cricket.
The senior teams also won honours. In 1987 the 1st X1 won The Division 1 South Wales Cricket Conference title for the first time, under the captaincy of Clive Melbourne Holmes.
The senior teams parted company with the South Wales Conference and played their cricket in the highly competitive South Wales Alliance, before in 1999, joining the newly formed South Wales Cricket League. In that first season Tondu 1st X1, gained promotion from Division 1, and for the first time in the club's history, the 1st X1, under the captaincy of Jonathan Raymond Bussey, were to play Premier league cricket against the best sides in Wales, including Cardiff, St. Fagans and Newport.
Having been relegated, the 1st X1, again won the Division 1 title in 2004, under the captaincy of Wayne Conway Butler.
Today, Tondu C.C. 1st X1, compete in Division 1 of the Glamorgan & Monmouthshire league. The club still fields three Saturday teams, along with 5 junior teams, and an Over 40s team.
